The Recreation Department, located at the Littell Community Center in the Borough of Franklin, is another of the many shared services between the Township and the Borough. Since 1998, the Township and Borough have jointly operated the Littell Community Center under the auspices of the joint Hardyston/Franklin Recreation Department. In 2013, Hamburg Borough joined Hardyson and Franklin to emerge as the Hardyston/Franklin/Hamburg Recreation Department.

The three communities lease the community center (Franklin Armory) from the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. The facility is available to non-profit organizations from Hardyston, Franklin, and Hamburg on a reservation basis. A gym, all purpose recreation room, partial kitchen and meeting room make up the facility. Township/Borough sponsored recreation programs are held each month, including teen dances, crafts, senior movies, after school movies, Senior Exercise, Happy Walkers Group, Book Club, Music and More for toddlers, Rookie Sports, Zumba, family special events and holiday celebrations.

Activity brochures are distributed to the Hardyston, Franklin and Hamburg school systems monthly. In addition, program information can be found on Service Electric Cable TV Channel 10, WSUS 102.3 FM radio and in all local newspapers

In mid-2001, the Township opened its sports and recreation complex facility on Wheatsworth Road. The facility contains 5 soccer fields, 2 soccer/football fields, 2 baseball fields, 2 softball fields, 1 field hockey field and 1 basketball court. The walking track that encompasses the facility is approximately three-quarters of a mile in length. The facility also has a concession stand with pavilion; there is a playground adjacent to the concession stand area. In 2004, a 12×22-foot gazebo was added to the grounds. Use of the facility is under the jurisdiction of the Recreation Department.
